Flap Surgery to the Rescue!
Have you ever heard of gingival flap surgery? It’s a type of gum procedure where the gums are separated from the teeth and are temporarily folded back. This allows a dentist to reach the root of the tooth and the bone. This procedure is used to help treat gum disease. It is used for people with moderate or advanced periodontitis. Usually scaling or root planning is done as a first measure. However, if those treatments are unsuccessful, flap surgery is usually the next step.
Typically, it takes only a few days to recover from a flap procedure. Be sure to follow the home care instructions that your dentist or oral surgeon gives you.
