Gum Surgery
When you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, it means you have an infection where your gum tissue is inflamed, red, swollen and there may be loss of bone around your teeth. The disease can affect one or more teeth at the same time. Sometimes a solution to help treat periodontal disease is gum surgery. There are a few different types available:
Gingival Flap Surgery is needed if the gum pocket is greater than 5mm deep. This procedure is often suggested for those with moderate to severe periodontal disease. This type of surgery separates the gum tissue and deep cleans using an ultrasonic scaling device.
Gingivectomy removes excess gum tissue which may have overgrown on teeth. This helps to get a better clean!
Gingivoplasty – this type of gum surgery is done to reshape healthy gums for a better appearance.
